The Orange County Register, Home & Garden Section, gave our Succulents 101 class the Editor’s Top Pick for things to do on October 31, 2009.
The first fall chill was in the air on Halloween morning as Clifford Meng welcomed Goin Native’s students into his magical world of succulent bonsai. Cliff’s mischievous smile, hot coffee and fresh pumpkin bread (look for our family recipe) had everyone feeling warm and glad they came.
Clifford completely charmed us while offering plenty of useful information on the care of cacti and succulents from watering, pruning and a planting demonstration to a discussion on pests (baseball bats work best on grasshoppers). The Q & A was ongoing, notes were taken and laughs were shared.
What was the surprise take-home project?Students moved to the potting tables and filled sunny yellow and blue Italian pots or scooped the centers from small pumpkins to hold a variety of small succulents. Each container arrangement was original and beautiful.
